אם־ה׳ לא־יבנה בית שוא עמלו בוניו בו

אם־ה׳ לא־ישמר־עיר שוא שקד שומר

Im-Hashem lo-jivne bajit shav amelu bonav bo,

im- Hashem lo-jishmor-ir shav shakad shomer.

Unless the Lord builds the house,

the builders labor in vain.

Unless the Lord watches over the city,

the guards stand watch in vain.
